engine swap or ?

Asked by BobKittel_356 Jan 08, 2012 at 12:20 AM about the 1993 Ford E-Series E-350 XL Econoline Cargo Van

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 93 E350 with a 460. I can not afford to keep running gas through this thing, I might as well be dumping it on the ground. Is there a smaller ford V8 that will swap into this chassis without a big amount of mods. I was told a 302 would work and would bolt to my over drive auto tranny with a flywheel change. Is the 460, good runner, worth anything to help finance the swap.
part two of this question. Is there anything I can do to the 460 to get better gas mileage. I was told that some type of air box or something that goes onto the intake would perhaps double my mileage. I think I get around 7 right now and the engine is in good tune.

the 302 wont hook to your tranny, big block vs small block.really no way to improve mpg, ecpt a tune up,change driveing habits.or trade it in on a smallar van or small truck.sorry.

I can get around 14 mpg in my 15 passenger with a 460. I just imagine I am driving a train! Easy on the gas, back off near the top of a hill, and coast whenever possible. Nothing silly or that would irritate other drivers, but it makes a difference.
