Headlights won't work unless I hold the high beam toggle switch

Asked by Arron Dec 31, 2015 at 11:32 AM about the 2003 Chevrolet Impala LS FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Some times the headlights work fine.
Sometimes they go out for an
undetermined time. High beam and low
beam are both non working, but, when you
pull the lever to switch from low beam to
high beam the head lights come on but
only when I'm holding in the switch. Any
ideas?

10 amp lamp fuse under the hood is good. Replaced the light switch. Still an issue. Thinking it's the multi switch....

I'm having the exact same problem with my 2005 chevy impala. Both the bright and dim lights went out. If I hold in the dimmer switch the lights stay on but only as long as i'm holding them. Fuses and relay switch good. If anyone figured out the problem please post

I had someone tell me it was the multi-switch, the one for the high beams, blinkers, windshield wipers and cruise control. However, upon pricing it, it's $450 just for the part!!!

I had this same issue, I replaced fuses, multifunction switch, the whole headlight housing as well as bulbs. Nothing worked It turned out to be the ground. It didn't look corroded or anything but I thought I give it a go anyway and the first thing I noticed was there was paint underneath, it wasn't bare metal. I sanded it till I saw metal and sanded the connector to. Now all my lights work as they should! I wish I would have done this before I spent money on the other things. It is located on the Frame behind the light housing on the driver side
