No start, no crank, no dash

Asked by Jon Feb 23, 2020 at 12:39 PM about the 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2003 Chevy Avalanche.  Was working on the truck putting a used factory
radio in, which worked for a couple minutes and then smoked, took it back
out and put the dash bezel back on and now I have no start, no crank, and
no dash other than the battery light and the mileage when I turn the key on.
It had an aftermarket alarm installed at some point that is not active and
made no difference when I unplugged it and removed it's fuse.

Unless you're very good with auto electrical, you probably need the help of a shop that specializes in auto electrical systems to find out what got fried when the radio had its melt down.
