Too much power steering fluid

Asked by GuruN16WS Nov 04, 2019 at 12:36 PM about the 2005 Mercedes-Benz M-Class ML 350 4MATIC

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2005 Mercedes ML350 that I bought
about a year and a half ago. The only thing I
have had to do is pick t seems like every two
months I need to add power steering fluid (I
only need to put like half the of the little bottle
)well I put some in yesterday morning because
it was starting to make that noise it normally
does when I need it. I had a partial bottle left
over and went ahead and put it Allen.
Unfortunately I didn’t check the gauge at the
time. Well I was out of town also. Later that
day I went to drive back home (about 3 1/2
hour drive) and it was make a knocking noise.
Well I drove home anyway and it is still making
the knocking noise but a little worse. I just
checked the oil and power steering fluid and
the power steering fluid is really full almost to
the top of the reservoir. Would that cause the
knocking noise?

Depends on when it makes the knocking noise. You might have air in the system from the leak. Find the leak. It's most probably a seal or a cracked hose so you don't have to worry about it. Then you can bleed the system of air properly.
