Idling high most of the time using lots of gas

My Honda did that too. Service engine light on ? I'd have to look on that model to see if Gage temp and engine temp sensor or all in one . but if your engine temp sensor for the computer is bad and way off it will think its much colder or warmer than it really is and adjust idle and fuel mixture to for the wrong outside temp. If it thinks it's too hot then it will even tell the computer to kill the engine or it will run like crap if you can even get it cranked again.

Clean your throttle body with fuses #10 and #28 removed! You're lucky, the temperature sensor is on drivers side right above the thermostat, easy repair.
