Question type: Maintenance & Repair

About a month ago it start missing/jumping(for lack of a better word) while going down
the road and sometimes while sitting still at red lights or n parking lot it would act like it
was going to die, then the check engine light came on and code read cylinder misfire, so
my husband changed 2 coils it seemed better for a few weeks but now it doing it again
just not as bad but it won't throw a code? Could it be more bad coils and if so why won't it
throw a code so we will know which one to change. I'm afraid it's not that at all and we r
at a lose, bc it's getting costly to keep changing parts, we've changed oil, spark plugs,
fuel filter, and 2 coils. HELP HELP HELP

Our 04 trailblazer had the same symptoms as yours. The solution we found was pretty simple...clean out the throttle body. The throttle plate was dirty and needed a good cleaning. Here is a link to a post with photos to help get the job done. There are also videos on youtube as well. http://www.automotivehelper.com/topic941046.htm P.S. Don't forget to reset your computer by disconnecting your negative battery cable for about half an hour so the computer will not try to run the engine as if the throttle body is still dirty. Hope this helps, Marc

I did all of that stuff, swapped the coil boots, changed all plugs, changed fuel filter, AND pulled the throttle body and detailed that as well. Ran great for a week and now it's back to the rough idle and no power...

Sounds like your catalytic converter went bad... I went thru the same thing with my 03 Chevy Trailblazer... Idling, missing, losing power terribly... I had the spark plugs, boots and coils changed... Changed the fuel filter and all... Nothing worked until my catalytic was disconnected, gutted and put back on... Regained power and ran like a horse... I could consider REPLACING the converter because gutting it was my quick, cheap and illegal fix

have you checked your exhaust to see if it is sucking air

Because if so you have a burned valve and if that's the case sell it now because my 05 had one and pulling the head off is a nightmare and the head bolts lways break I mean always

If your Trailblazer has a sunroof there are two drains one on each side that come out at the front of the door jams in a rubber tube that rubber tube sometimes comes loose and runs water into your floor board if you take the kick panels off on either side or on the side that's getting wet you will find that the tube has slid off the pipe that runs down from the gutter in your sunroof plug it back on you can barely reach it with your fingers and I guarantee you your league. I dealt with this for 3 months before I finally found it

More often than not 1 bad coil will lead to the other 5 with out the code best to just replace all or at least rebuild after 100k the gaskets crack its a lot of heat on that monster inline work horse

Ignition coils and bad spark plugs fail are common and a scan would tell if these misfire. Other possible causes could be; gas pressure regulator, bad O2 sensors, clogged VGR, soil on throtle valve or gas filter, loose or broken vacuum hose at gas pressure regulator, bad camshaft position sensor (scan code would tell). These are easy fixes. Gas pressure regulator will require a special tool to loosen fittings. This can get ugly if it's a gas pump issue, kind of complicated but not impossible DIY job. In some instances worn timing chain might be the cause, usually if high milage (+200k). Good luck.
