What is the leather body bad looking thing that comes out of the center back seat in 1996 C280 Mercedes?

I can't figure out what this huge leather thing is. It has buckles on it too. It folds up and is physically attached to the center seat in the back.

It is a long black, leather thing that you have to fold in a difficult manner to get it back into its storage area.

For the life of me I can't understand what it is.

Okay, I figured it out. A friend says it is a Ski-condom. I actually thought that might be it, but then though.. why would anyone put that in a car? However since I do snowboard a ton this is a great thing to have. Color me pleased.
