My 1994 Mercedes Benz C280 sputtered briefly then lost power on the highway. It started up, then lost power, again. It wasn't registering nothing out of the ordinary as far as temperature, it was at 70 I guess? What happened?

I am unsure of whether i allowed the car to fully warm up. I thought I
allowed my car to warm up, always, but maybe not. Could it be that?  In the
past two weeks I've experienced my car (missing), meaning for a split
second it lost power, but regained without shutting totally off.  The other
day, i can't remember if I took off with my car, still cold, when i traveled 8
miles, then it sat for 2 hours, and then i got in (again didn't remember
sitting their awaiting for it to reach at or near 80) before I traveled down the
street. When I got in traffic on the Interstate, about two minutes later it lost
power. I tried turning it over, it would stay on for 2 seconds and shut off.  I
was on the shoulder repeating the same thing, until finally it stayed on, and
I traveled home in a matter of 10 minutes.  What do you think happened?
