I have a 2004 Chevy Suburban with 180000 miles. Have been the only owner and taken care of my vehicle. I noticed that the antifreeze is needing to be added and losing oil between oil changes. I have visited my mechanic and am told that it may be head gaskets due to antifreeze loss but if oil loss doesnt stop we may need to go straight to engine replacement. I am hoping I can get some more imput on my situation. I really cant afford a car payment. But dont want to keep sinking money into a money pit. Please advise. Thank you!

On a 13 year old vehicle with 180,000 miles on it it's normal to need to top off the fluids. Gaskets get old and seep. Same with hose fittings, etc. An addition of 1 quart of oil in between oil changes, is not excessive on this vehicle. You may want to inspect your PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) system for proper operation. Replace the PCV valve and crankcase ventilation filter. Inspect the PCV hoses for clogging, cracking, and broken conditions. Having to top off the antifreeze two or three times per year wouldn't be excessive for a vehicle of this age and mileage. Pressure test the cooling system. The system should hold pressure for 15 minutes minimum. If not, then something is leaking. HTH. -Jim
