What type of damage could have been done from an air filter that was put on backwards?

Asked by ITLLFIT Jun 16, 2015 at 11:31 AM about the 2007 Honda Fit Sport

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Went to get my oil changed like I do regularly, but I went to a different place. This place told me the air filter was put on backwards. Yet Ive been driving around for 6 months not knowing it. Couple weeks ago, my car started chugging while going down the road. Do you think the backwards air filter is causing this.

I wouldnt think the backwards filter would cause a chuging issue. Did the problem go away after replacing the filter and making sure it was installed correctly?

It's most likely fine. Aside from maybe a small loss of airflow (if any) a few contaminates or small particles that may have gotten into the intake, these would most likely burn up anyway. Heck, most 4-stroke boat engines don't even have filters.

That's a relief and very reassuring. Tune up is scheduled for Thursday, so we shall see. Thanks Guys!
