Theft lock

Asked by MalibuMan08 May 17, 2016 at 11:54 AM about the 2004 Chevrolet Malibu FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car was stolen and I got it  back. The
person drill my ignition switch and used
another key or whatever. They also added a
toggle switch to kill the ignition. I got my car
back but the key won't work. It starts up but
only stays started for about 5 seconds then
dies down. What's the situation and what
should I do

That sucks. No help from insurance on repairs? I'm surprised the thieves were able to drive any distance at all without the anti-theft module kicking is, since they didn't have a master key. My guess is you are looking at replacing the lock cylinder and re-coding the ATM to a new master key.
