high beem switch only works when u hold it in on 2004 impala

Sounds like the switch will need to be replaced !

Are you operating it properly? Pulling forward on the stalk will activate the high beams, and not lock, it's used as a "flash to pass". You push the stick forward to the front of the car to lock it in "high beam" mode.
