2004 cavalier irregular starting problems

My mother-in-law owns a low mileage 2004 cavalier that she bought new.  Recently as of last year, she would get periodic starting problems with the car after driving it.  If it wouldn't start, she would wait 5-10 minutes and then it would start.  One week last winter, it happend three different days.  Then no problems for several months. Every mechanic told her, it would basically have to happen right infront of them for them to be able to find out what is wrong. Any ideas

No start. Does nothing not even turn over? Or Turns over but does not start? If the latter and this happens shortly after driving it it could be either the pcv sticking open or the egr sticking open. Is check engine light on?
