04 cavalier

Asked by Alexander Apr 28, 2018 at 01:05 PM about the 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier LS Coupe FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Have a cavalier 4 cylinder and it's running rich and
idling low. It also won't accelerate and has lost
most engine power. It's reading a p300 engine
miafire and a p1702 fuel system rich code.
Catalytic converter is only at about 400 degRees F.
Any help?

Did you use a gage and check proper fuel pressure? My info says 50--60 psi. So if your right in the middle, should be fine. After you build fuel pressure, turn the key off, see if the pressure holds for a bit? If it drops like a rock, you have a fuel pressure leak, somewhere? It could be fuel injector--fuel pressure regulator--might be draining back through the fuel pump. Smell of your crankcase oil dipstick, if it smells like gas, either you don't change your oil and filter very often or there is fuel getting into your crankcase. Just my opinion.
