engine revs up

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The engine revs up sometime up to 5,000 RPM. I have replaced the catalytic converter because thats what the computer said was wrong. Now theres no engine light on. It still does it and sometimes it dies. I replaced the throttle position sensor. I'm going to replace the valve cover gasket because it leaks oil, which I don't think will help with my main problem. What about the MAP valve? The odd thing is the check engine light is not on.  Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

If you haven't cleaned out the throttle body, do that with some throttle body cleaner and an old tooth brush. If that doesn't help check the idle air control valve.
