Van over heating

Asked by andrew Jul 26, 2019 at 04:10 PM about the 2005 Chevrolet Venture LS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

the cooling fans are not coming on until the van temp get to 3/4 and then it will
back down to just above 1/2. Witch can cause a problem when you have been
driving it for a loge time because the fans can not keep up with it and it
overheats at a light or just slow in town traffic.

The radiator is brand new it was just replaced along with the water pump heater core and motor. I am curious if anybody knows at what temperature the fans are supposed to kick on.

May still be a little air in the system bleed air from system like this remove cap from over flow tank fill with antifreeze to full mark leave cap off and start vehicle and let idle you may notice level in tank start to rise this is normal once thermostat starts to open level in tank will drop add more antifreeze to full mark then put cap back on. If this does not take care of your problem could be the coolant temperature sensor is bad.

That was replaced as well I know these 3.4 engines are notorious for air I will try the reserve tank method.

Ok so now the fans are not turning on at all. Should I start looking at the computer or the fans?
