Cylinder misfire on a Toyota Rav4?

Asked by goufyswife Jan 31, 2017 at 01:06 PM about the 2001 Toyota RAV4 Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2001 Toyota Rav4 and I am getting a misfire code for cylinder 4.
Just to be sure that that was the problem, I switched #4 coil with #3 coil and
cleared the codes.  (Engine light is usually on because of the converter)  The
engine light is now back on, but I am not getting any misfire codes.  I dont
understand why that would be. I have not put the new coil in yet.

If the catalytic converter is bad why don't you replace it? Your car will run a lot better and get better gas mileage too. New coils don't cost that much so you might want to replace them and the spark plugs.

Once I can afford to replace it, I will. Kinda costly. I just replaced the plugs last year. It just doesnt make sense to me why everything is fine even though nothing new has been installed. Just switched around.
