Awd is automatic 4wd is adjustable by the driver.

There is no fwd on a awd four wheel drive and all wheel drive are different.

My 2016 Equinox was AWD, I was told it was automatic and came on when needed. My 2021 Equinox has an AWD button over the shift gear and I was told to press when needed in snow and winter driving here in MI. Turn off when not needed.
