2005 chevy equinox. Engine losing power while driving

Asked by Tim Aug 02, 2017 at 12:28 PM about the 2005 Chevrolet Equinox LS FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Car has been having engine losing power issue for
about a week. I'll be driving and the engine would
all of a sudden lose power. Car won't accelerate at
all and I can coast at about 30-45 until I hit a red
light and it takes about 5 minutes to reach 20. I'll
turn the car off and back on and the problem
usually goes away. Lately it's taken more off and on
attempts to solve the issue. Just had my oil
changed and I believe they cleaned the fuel
injector? Not sure how to check if they did or not.
Any ideas on what the issue could be?!

sound like the car is going into "limp" mode, there should be a check engine light on, most likely some kind of a sensor problem, you would have to get a code reader and check the codes set

Well I was working in an 2006 Chevy equinox, wouldn't go past 40 mph! No check engine light on, monitors are complete! Turns out the customer put the wrong size tires which caused traction light flashing! Manufacturer size tire necessary! Problem solved!!!!

I am having the same problem. Turns out the celinode runs on oil pressure. If your oil is low it alerts and could damage this sensor. Check your oil. My was down a qrt. Put oil in a problem solved.

Currently 2020 I have a 2005 Chevy equinox. I had a delay when cranking for about 2 weeks, then eventually one morning needed a jump. I Had jumped off 3 times before going to Auto zone to hook it up to the computer and get my truck checked. They told me the alternator, and battery was running about half and half and my alternator was going bad and I’d have to have a new alternator, and a new battery too as a result. Long story short a friend of mine unhooked they cables from the battery and the truck still remained crunk, therefore the alternator wasn’t bad. So we put in a new battery and car crunk up like new. 30 minutes later my check engine light came on, along with another check engine light with a arrow pointing downward , and my t/c light and then my car started losing power smh. Had it hooked up to another computer and the codes cleared and they see nothing wrong besides something with the pedal that could be causing connect issues. My truck is still at the shop. I will post an update to let you guys no what was found.

My 08 chevy equinox with 3.4 engine did the same and drove me to drink till I got down to the core of the problem. I replaced the throttle body position sensor which was on its way out as per one of the videos on youtube, then I replaced one of the knock sensors on the back of the engine and finally the crankshaft/ camshaft position sensor. As soon as I replaced the crank/ cam sensor the car would not start at all.turns out the block where it sits and bolts on had rusted a bit and if it doesn't sit properly as it is very sensitive to sitting tightly flush with on the engine block, it would not register and the engine would not start. Cleaned the area from all the rust build up with some sand paper made sure I put a clean piece of rag in the opening also to stop the oil from dripping cleaned it and put in new sensor and never had any issues ever since. Try that.
