91 Previa AllTrak. Starts fine, then when driving normally the Check engine Light comes on and the engine shuts off? Ideas? solutions? I am stuck in Colorado right now. Thanks

Asked by Paulhmenandiez Sep 22, 2019 at 12:57 PM about the 1991 Toyota Previa 3 Dr Deluxe All-Trac AWD Passenger Van

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

91 Previa All Track 298,900 miles Starts and drives fine. I just
drove 900 miles to Colorado from St Louis zero problems.
Now just driving along normally the engine check light come
on and the car shuts off just like switching off the key. Then I
have to wait 30 minutes and it starts fine and drives fine then
it happens again and it s dead. It  will not start immediately
after it dies but after 20 minutes it is fine. All the levels are
fine for coolant and oil. I checked the before the trip. the
water temp has never gone past half way. There There is oil in
the reserve and in the coolant overflow. It just like someone
turns a switch and it dies. Any help would be appreciated as
I am stranded. I recently had a starting problem where you
would drive somewhere and park, come back out 10 minutes
Later and it would not start, My Local mechanic replaced the
fuel filter and checked the fuel pump and no problems since
and NOW THIS a 1000 miles from home! Taking to a local
mechanic monday  Any help would be appreciated greatly.
thanks, Paul M.
