2001 Toyota echo evac

Trying to get a 2001 Toyota to pass smog. Smoke test was done said it was a
valve on top of gas tank, which means the gas tank has to be dropped. I have
heard that if I get the check engine turned off, and drive 100 miles and then
go to smog shop that it will pass. Is this true?
