95 corolla bolt on the crankshaft will not come off. I put a piece of metal in the top pulley and tried to turn the crankshaft bolt, I think the timing belt jumps. How do I keep the crankshaft from moveing so I can get the bolt off?

Need to get the bolt off the crankshaft pulley. The top pulley is locked in place and when I try removing the crankshaft pulley I think the timing belt jumps instead of the bolt coming off. I need to hold the crankshaft from moving to get the bolt off.

Disclaimer!! I don't know this for a fact, about YOUR car. but in some cars the bolt holding the harmonic balancer has left-handed threads, i.e. clockwise to loosen, I had a car that was the situation. . A wrap-around chain wrench held the HB in place for me.

are you using an impact wrench?? if not, that will probably work best.

try leaving the car in gear to put more pressuer on the drive line. Left hand thread could be the cause also,

Take the starter out And lock the flywheel up Only way Big screwdriver
