I own a 1996 Toyota celica. I've been stuck trying to
get it back and running for the past 5 months now.
The car will finally start up but when I give it gas the
rpm drops and the engine cuts. what is causing The
rpm to drop and ultimately making the car turn off?

Idle air control valve. or you could have a bad MAF sensor, or a vacuum line, or an opening after the MAF sensor. Let us know which one.
