car wont start

so my battery went dead i buy a new battery and the cars working fine, two days later my
battery light comes on and then the car dies on me i try to start it back up it wont start ,i
get a jump it starts but when i take the cables off it dies on me again whats the problem?

If the battery light is on the alternator needs to be replaced.
