Engine swapping

Can engine from 2005 Toyota Camry be swapped with engine from 1999 Toyota Camry. I have Bad engine in 1999. Thanks

It's much easier to replace the engine with the same year. Newer engines have different wiring harnesses and computers. Which means EVERYTHING must be changed out. Either just get your old one rebuilt or find one that is the exact same year.

In California the replacement engine can only be 2 years older or 2 years newer in order to legally pass a smog inspection. I found out the hard way. Then you have to jump through hoops to get the vehicle legal.
