Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi
My 2000 Camry 4 cylinder recently had starting issue couple of times. I had to step on gas to start the car. Once started it ran fine until yesterday. This Moring engine would not keep running unless I keep step on gas. If I release gas paddle it stops immediately without any rpm.
I do not hear fuel pump pressuring up. I actually do not remember it did before.
I changed spark plugs and fuel filler today. It did not help at all. There is no check engine light.
There was one and fixed it by changing EGR modulator about 4 month ago. But after changing modulator, if I release the gas paddle when it is running, I feel like the car withdrawing a little bit. But it ran fine until yesterday.
What can be the problem?

Thank you very much,

John

Turn your key to the on possition with the engine off and check the fuel pressure on the fuel rail on top of the engine. If you are reading good pressure at the rail then it would sound to me like your idle air control valve is bad. This part is responsible for allowing air to bypass your throttle body when the car is idleing to allow the engine to continue to breeth. When this part doesn't work your foot and the gas allows air to go past the open throttle plate, but when you take your foot off the the plate is closed the engine runs out of air and stalls. Easy part to replace right on the side of the throttle body and can be purchased at your local auto part store. If you have poor fuel pressure your fuel pump has failed. Best of luck.

Yes. You are right. throttle body was too dirdy. So I used the injector cleaner cleaned it, and it fixed the problem. I thought that was not problem because I did clean the throttle every 6 month. actually it was. Thank you very much Patrick. You are an amaging engineer!. I am very happy about the fact that my camry has been fixed. I just posted another issue which is the most annoying .
