Replaced battery bit still won't crank

Asked by Jun 14, 2017 at 06:35 PM about the 2000 Toyota Camry CE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The battery was replaced and the starter and
alternator tested ok. I drive it to gas station from
auto shop and needed a jump. Once I got it home
an hour later it would not even crank. What could
the problem really be?

What needs to be checked is if there is power getting to the starter solenoid when the ignition key is turned to the start position. If there is no power threw the small wire at the starter solenoid, then the problem lies up-stream, like possibly the ignition switch, or neutral safety switch, or even the clutch safety switch if it is a manual transmission.

What engine and what mileage?. Find a small hammer. The next time she will not crank over...like the battery appears dead...tap the starter motor a few times and attempt another crank. Get back to us with results.

The starter tested ok so they wouldn't look. Into it. What they said it was a faulty wire in the car alarm. Still afraid to drive it. Any one have any insight on this diagnosis?

If the alarm system is ...Factory.....it's off to the Dealership for diagnosis and repair. If it's AFTERMARKET...have your mechanic disconnect it for the diagnosis. You might consider checking the Owners Manual for info concerning the Alarm System.

Ok thanks. I never heard of an alarm system that causes these kind of problems.
