98 Camry... Turn over, but won't crank

Asked by Coneal5 Dec 28, 2016 at 07:44 PM about the 1998 Toyota Camry LE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

98 Camry,4Cyl.

Turned off while I was driving, sounded like I ran
outta gas. Turns over, but won't crank in an amidst
chirping noise. Ran the code and Cam Sensor
popped up. Replaced the Cam sensor, sounds
exactly the same. I killed my battery while waiting
for help, so I have to jump it off for each attempt.
What could it be?

Side notes:
Was told a few weeks ago battery needed water.
Air intake code popped up after Can sensor was
replaced.

You may have broken the timing belt. I would remove a couple of the cover bolts and see if you can pull it back far enough to see in there with a light. It's plastic so you can bend it back pretty good. That may be why you got a cam error code. It's not turning because the belt broke. I would check that first.
