Question type: General

I WANTED TO KNOW IF THE THIS MODEL 93 CAMRY SE V6 WITH MANUAL TRANSM HAVE OVERDRIVE?  IF SO, WHERE IS IT LOCATED.  I'VE SEARCHED EVERYWHERE FOR IT AND COULD NOT FIND IT.   WITHOUT OVERDRIVE, RPM AT 70 MPH WAS AROUND 3400 RPM...WHICH IS TOO HIGH.   OVERDRIVE WOULD REDUCE THIS, LIKE THE WAY IT DOES FOR THE AUTO TRANSM MODELS.

Hi KhotY, Unfortunately, there's no overdrive for manual transmissions. Your transmissions may be "missing a gear". The only other explanation would be the rear end gearing is too high. (But this is not normally the case.) Hope this helps!

If your manual transmission has a 5th gear, that is overdrive. It is a ratio of .73 of engine revolutions to 1 turn of the output shaft inside the transmission, thus overdriving the output shaft. Your rpm@70 should be closer to 2,500 or 2,700. Check that your shift linkage is actually putting the transmission into 5th gear and not 3rd. A worn out linkage cable or bushing would restrict it from going into 5th gear and reverse.

There is a button on the gear shifter with the letters OD on it so that doesn't mean overdrive what do they mean
