Shorted out ignition system changing alternator
I changed alternator on 93 camry 4 cyl, but I did not disconnect battery first and hot cable on alternator made contact with car and sparked. Now repair is complete but ignition system doesn't work. I have limited power in car but appears some systems not working. I checked fuses in main engine box, all appear good. Is there a main ignition fuse linked to alternator hot line I might have blown?
disconnect the hot wire from both alternator as well as where ever it may connect from positive battery cable use a circuit tester clamp on one end of wire and touch other end with probe it should light up if not there a FUsable link in the wire that's blown
further more before doing all that work just use a common test light ground it on something alternator bracket Neg battery post and first check to make sure u have power a volt meter would be better make sure the battery has 12 volt as well as the red wire back of the alternator also
when checking fuses and circuit breakers there should be the types of fuses that have two metal points on the top end back whatever u wanna call it and use a test light clipped onto a good ground check via sticking probe to a known hot source and then sticking probe of test light to each side of fuse on back where metal tabs are located keep in mind in order fir some fuses to display powder then power will have to be going to them so it maybe needed to turn on headlights tail lights turns signals etc in order to supply power if u touch one side and no power display one one side but it does the other then it is blown it needs to be replaced. if the fuses do not have the metal tabs on the back then either use a circuit tester or or put 1 side of fuse on positive battery post and with test light grounded stick probe to other side it should light up if fuse isn't blown
it is gonna be a whole lotta work electrical issues alwAys r and people do not wanna pay u for it believe that they never do even if four shops done looked at it & can't figured it out they done spent $1000 on parts & $400 on wrecker bills & they want u to fix it u say $600 they wanna give u $50 maw I'll pour 2 gallons of fuel in it and set it on fire b4 I do that
Check fuse #25 under the hood fuse box. Should be a larger square fuse with a clear window on the top.
