Car won't start

Asked by Mar 12, 2017 at 04:36 PM about the 2001 Toyota Avalon XLS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi, we bought a 01 Avalon from another
party, they tried still this car. So when I
go to try to start the car security light
keeps flashing. The key hole on door is
damage. No remote giving only key.
Check fuel pump and has new battery..
What else can be wrong with it.

Sounds like you got the wrong key. You'll need to contact a locksmith or garage that can fix the lock cylinder on the door and program some new keys for you. You can pick up some new fobs while your at it. Hope you got the car for cheap, I would never buy a car without starting and driving it.

It was pretty much given to me.

Cylinder on door is beyond repair. Not sure what you mean about wrong key. If I replace cylinder in door, would I need two different keys to start this car. Does the key turn deactivate security light.
