Bent rear axle due to low impact collision

Asked by Feb 09, 2017 at 10:45 PM about the 2003 Toyota 4Runner SR5 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Do I find an entirely new rear axle, or is there a
certain part that can fix the fact that my two rear
tires wear on the inside and seem to be pointing
away from each other towards the front of the
vehicle

So the tubes are bent on the differential and it would be best to replace the whole unit, it's old enough you should be able to find one in a wrecking yard, just make sure it is the same ratio or you will mess up the transfer case. You better check the spring mounts also, if they are damaged it can cause dog walking in the alignment.

You can check axle shafts with a "hub run out" test, using a dial indicator. If axles are bad just replace them.
