That switch module takes a lot of abuse and can often get wet, so that may have attributed to why it started to burn or arc. To be safe remove it and check the wire harness in the door for fraying or scorching. You can pick up a new switch module at any salvage yard, or buy one retail online. Swapping them out if pretty straightforward, requires only basic tools. You can probably find a youtube video on the procedure.

There is a recall for this issue. If your vehicle isn't covered, be careful in what you buy. A brand new one needs to be programmed by the dealer where a used one does not need to be programmed. Before you buy a used one, you need to know the #'s that are stamped on the switch. Call the dealer and ask them if this used one is the updated version. Otherwise, keep looking, you'll end up with the same problem again.
