Question type: Maintenance & Repair

i financed a impala from a car lot and 1 day after having car the
transmission fragged out on me (completely shot). Now i returned vehicle
and the mechanic on the lot said he is swapping the transmission from a
2000 pontiac grand prix supercharged, which i believe is the 3.8L engine
and putting that in my 2006 chevy impala with a 3.5L engine and reassures
me that "it will be just fine".I've done some research and i know the correct
transmission my vehicle requires is the 4T65-E.can someone please help
me? I need to know if they are BS'ing me.thank you

So there is a kit that can purchased to make the conversion. I don't know if it is worth the expense. This will depend on your expertise as a DIY Mechanic. To make the modifications in a shop would require a ton of labor, approximately 12-18 hours, depending on the current trans set up in the Impala, if it's already gutted, and if the shop charges you a "disposal fee". If you are confident in your own skills, it will take some time but yes, it is possible. The main benefit to the SuperCharger vs a turbo, is the the Intercooler portion is omitted. The only thing I would worry about is ensuring that the oil cooler in the impala can handle the torgue from the upgraded tranny. I would be curious to see how this goes! Let me know Julian and best of luck! :)

thank you very much 6ft.the guy is telling me the only difference between the two transmissions is the shift indicator onmy trans is internal and the pontiacs is external.so they are running a new wiring harness.but assures me that it will work.now i know there is a torque converter size difference between the two transmissions. but im worried about the valve body difference between the two and my transmission is a bit more "modular"with the sensors and all. the range sensor etc. so do you think these trans can be interchangeable? and work?

I have a 2006 impala 3.9 V6 and my transmission also went out and I was having a hard time finding someone to tell me what other cars compatible with my car. At Jetchip.com I got a list of compatible vehicles and I do believe that the Pontiac is on the list I received from them .let me know if it does please.
