front axles? on a 1990 subaru loyale

I have a 1990 subaru loyale wagon 4wd turbo with the automatic transmission, well I needed new axles for the front so i ordered two and they did not fit, they said they where the same size because its a auto tranny,  I got two more from another parts store and they both did not fit again and they where the same size. I then orderd once again from another auto place and one axles was the right size and one was not, but they were both the same size so I am totally confused. I called subaru and they told me there diffrent sizes and it was about 400 for one but sounded like he just wanted me off the phone. PLEASE any help I need the right side axle, anyone know any history on this car or were i can get the right size
