Car overheat issue!! Please help !!!!

Recently bought an 06 chevy equinox. Was running
fine then a few days, overheated. Realized stop a
leak bs was in the actual coolant tank from
previous person. Someone did a flush for me, was
fine for a week or so. Overheated again. Ill drive on
highway and as I get off, it overheats (2 times
now). Currently someone did another flush but
didnt have coolant so water is in right now. ( i know
i need coolant )  I am losing the water but am
seeing no leaks anywhere (on ground,etc). Fans
are working. Replaced temp gauge. Really hoping it
isnt head gasket. Please help!
