Subaru engine swap

So I have a 2004 Subaru Legacy 35th anniversary
edition with a 2.5 L automatic, it loves to overheat
and slip out of 3rd gear and won't catch it at all. For
the longest time I gave up on it but then I got a
spur of confidence and I wanted to fix it myself.
But I wanted to make it a little different, I want to
try to put a 2.0 L flat 4 from a WRX into my car. I
wanted to ask the community if there will be any
fitment issues with the new engine before I get to
far into this plan.

The cost to do such a conversion right might exceed the cost of buying a used WRX,

I'm not too worried about the cost, I really just want to take out the 2.5 L and then slowly save the money for the engine on jdm engine depo and see if I can make it a project car. I just don't have all the tools to fabricate new parts like engine mounts if it can't use the original engine mounts.
I recommend you buy a WRX donor car as the engine is just the start. You also need a turbo, intercooler, the engine control computer, wiring and lots and lots of other parts. When you are done you will not own a WRX but a modified car worth far less than you have in it. Good luck!

Don't do it! The anemic torque of the 2.0 won't move the heavier Leg body mass well, leaving you VERY pissed off as you wait past turbo lag. (That's why Legs first used 2.5 for the Turbo GT...despite lack of durability.)
