Japanese 2003 Subaru Legacy wagon
There is no outside key hole on my car. There is

That picture looks like a dust cover that might press in to allow the key to enter. Or you can change your remote battery every five years as preventative maintenance. I have a remote battery that is 20 years old and the range is still over 100 feet. Probably wasn't made in China. And the Jeep wasn't either.
