Subaru Legacy 2001 AWD sedan stalling

Asked by NottaCarGuru Jun 15, 2020 at 06:05 PM about the 2001 Subaru Legacy L AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I am having some issues with my Subaru Legacy 2001 AWD sedan. After driving for a bit, the engine starts chugging, car starts shaking (seems to come from drivers side) and if I continue to drive it smells similar to burnt rubber and the engine dies. People have said it might be the fuel pump, a timing issue or the computer needs re-flashing because of the new battery. I'm at a total loss and I need my car for work but I can't afford to put much money into it (about $1000 at best) It doesn't have any issues when it's just idling, only after driving for about 20 minutes (even less as time goes on)
