Could it be something other than head gaskets.

My 1999 Subaru Legacy Outback 2.5ltr. Is overheating,
bubbles in coolant and no heat.  I assumed head gaskets
well because I tried bleeding the coolant system to no avail.  
I also changed the thermostat.  But I just found out that the
head gaskets were replaced just 40,000 miles ago.  Is there
something I am forgetting to check??

First gen 2.5 DOHC did NOT suffer rebuilding successfully, as the gap between the combustion chambers and the lower coolant passages is too small, resulting in repeated breakdown. Even when running successfully block component durability (esp rod bearings) is poor. Just toss it. Sorry.
