Rack and pinion replacement

A couple of mouths ago we had the rack and
pinion replaced on our 2006 cobolt because of
grinding. It made a huge difference in the feel and
sound of the car but ever since we got it back it
makes a rubbing noise like it's not lubed properly.
We bought the part from O'Reillys and our only
option as of now is to deal with it or swap the part
out and pay $200 in labor again to have it replaced
a second time. We can deal with the soft rubbing
sound but is it unsafe to leave the car this way?
We're planning a long road trip in June.

May not be the rack and pinion you should have the mechanic that put it in for you go over his work he may have not installed something correctly.

Agree. You should take it back and have it checked to make sure everything is in its proper place. If so drive it. It's highly unlikely that there are any safety issues involved. As long as the steering feels fine you'll be OK. You've probably got a year to replace the part on warranty if its defective. Wait and see. It may get worse, or it may eventually go away although after 2 months that seems unlikely.

Mine completely snapped at 128,400 NY car so I think rust and salt was the cause, it could be a car killer 650$ quote to fix buy mechanic
