Shifter in cobalt sticks

My shifter on my cobalt is sticking and hard to
shift from park to drive, it will move but im afraid
eventually it will get stuck, can I put wd40 in the
well,

i'd also look at the linkage under the hood too to check for wear.

1906 cobalt put the car in gear and the car will not go the mother just rib up
