2006 Chevy Cobalt

I was driving home from work last night and
I had my high beams on and they would go
bright then dim and bright again. When I got
to my road the car just suddenly powered
down! My headlights, dashboard lights,
radio and heat still worked and the car was
still on! (I already got the ignition switch
that was recalled fixed.) The car didn't stall,
I just had no power in my gas pedal. I
turned the car off, turned it back on and it
still would not GO! About an hour later I
went and started it and Voila! It went! I hve
no idea what is going on and I don't want
this to happen again. I need help. I also
don't have money to get ducked around by
some mechanic. I need to know what a
wrong so I can just get it fixed. I NEED my
car!

I could also put it into Drive and reverse and park with no problem other than my brake locking slightly. I had no engine revving or anything. It was like there was no power to my motor.
