Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My fiancé has a 2006 chevy cobalt
SS, he took it apart to replace the
clutch and the pressure plate, he put
the whole car back together and now
the car won't start or even crank over
but the head lights, trunk light, dash
lights come on.... So we don't think
the battery is dead, Any
suggestions??

I would check the battery voltage first. Lights use very few amps so an almost dead battery can still make lights and radios work. But the starter uses a bunch of amps and needs a fully or nearly fully charged battery to turn it over.

Sounds like a pinched, broken or disconnected wire if its electrical. Check for power at the starter and them start working your way upstream to find out where the problem is.

Don't get in over your head trying to save money. You will be better off in the long run taking your vehicle to a reputable professional.

Could be ignition switch, clutch switch, starter solenoid, or any of the electrical connections between. I have seen plenty of times where something unrelated to the repair breaks while it's being fixed. Put a clutch in a pickup and the clutch switch (the one inside the vehicle mounted behind the clutch pedal) just happened to go bad while replacing the clutch. Aside from parking the truck in the driveway we never stepped into the vehicle while working on it.

Did you ever find out what the problem was?
