Want to make my 2006 cobalt ls(standard) more enjoyable thinking of an engine swap any suggestions or advice?

Don't do a swap. It will be costly and not worth it provided you can overcome all the computer and smog system issues. Just buy a faster car or settle for a minor power boost with a cat back performance exhaust and a performance intake system.

I agree. Swapping an engine, or even upgrading the 2.2 with its associated drivetrain and suspension and electronics is a waste of money and your results will be disappointing. Sell the car and buy an SS/SC. Upgrade it to a stage II if you want still more power. Even without the upgrade it will go like crazy and be more fun to drive than your LS will ever be. Shop carefully though. Lots of them have been run very hard, abused and sometimes wrecked and not properly repaired. Having said that though, there are lots of good ones around too and the price will be right over a lot of other performance cars.
