Engine swap on a 1999 subaru impreza outback sport

Asked by Kilian Nov 03, 2015 at 08:48 PM about the 1999 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport AWD

Question type: Car Customization

I want to swap the engine of my 1999 subaru impreza and put in a new and
faster engine.  What engine size would I need to look for, and what type of
engine I should look for?

There are all kinds of go-fast goodies for Subaru's that don't involve an engine swap. Try the NAISOC forums for hot rod tips! http://forums.nasioc.com/

The thing is, I need a capstone project to graduate high school. So by swapping the engine and the tran. I could use that.

Swapping it with one of the same size would be my recommendation. Doing a major swap out will likely be too costly and complex for a high school project. NAISOC will be a better resource than this forum. Do lots of research before diving into a project like that. The turbo engines are certainly faster but the swap will be complex and expensive. Good Luck!
