Can't tell if Subaru tranny fluid is full or empty?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Heya, got another transmission leak! Pretty minor, it's in its
beginning. Gonna have the car get looked at on Friday. My
dilemma right now is that I can't tell where the tranny fluid is at
when I look at the stick? There's liquid at the very tip of the
dipstick, but also up where it'd be considered ''Full'' when hot
(operating temp). Beforehand, I drove the car about 2-4 miles to
get it up to operating temp, shifted through all the gears (held
each hear for about 10 seconds). I know the dipstick scrapes up
on the side of the line it goes through, so I'm not entirely sure how
accurate this reading would be.

If you checking with the engine running in park with the car fully warmed up I think you are about 1 quart low on fluid. A mechanic will probably check it for you for free if you ask.

Thanks for your answer! I bought just a quart of Valvoline MaxLife ATF, gonna put it in before going to drop of it off at a mechanic. Will update on how it runs :)

No. do NOT overfill! Better to drain it and refill with 3.75 qts atf for an exact fill.
