Car running hot

I noticed that my car needed some antifreeze
coolant, added what I had in there which was a
small amount, and filled it up the rest of the way
with water. Now it's overheating bad! Please help!!!

You created an air pocket. When engine is cooled, loosen a drain plug that is located on the thermostat housing and start engine, let air bubbles get out, keep filling with coolant until you see solid water stream (no more bubbles) and re tighten plug. This should take care of it
