Belt on my 2006 Grand Prix is squealing/chirping, used to only happen when it was wet or cold, and would stop when the engine warmed up. Now it doesn't stop.

Took it to a shop and the guy seems to think it is a bearing in the belt tensioner...

Thanks Tom...I guess that was my question. My next question would be do I have to use dealer parts or is there an after market option that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?

what happens is the bearing wears out....then the belt scoots to one side and abrasion on that side happens causing premature failure of the tensioner and bearing...and belt...get these things~
Try spraying belt conditioner on the belt. It makes it stickier so it doesn't squeal

So found another mechanic who gave me a quote $200 lower than the first, when I got there he asked if he could try just replacing the belt, he thought that was the main problem...a new belt...they fixed the heater I've been trying to get fixed for 5 years and it all cost less than $200. Thanks for the help!
