Key goes in comes right out. Wheel won't turn and ignition is locked won't turn at all

I've. Tried everything wheel turn both ways up down and key comes right out
but ignition is locked won't budge at all how do I unlock it so it will start

With the key in the ignition switch,use a rubber mallet and hit top of key 2 times (not crazy hard but a good hit) and see if you can turn the key to free up steering wheel.
